9.4. Check and adjustment of position of a pedal of a brake

Correctness of position of a pedal of a brake and by pressing against the stop (a working course of a pedal) serves in a free condition to one of criteria for check of serviceability of brake system. At the same time pedal position in many respects provides serviceable work of system. If the pedal is from a floor on distance, which more standard, probably incomplete растормаживание wheels at release pedals (thus usually there is no pedal free wheeling). If the pedal is too low, probably decrease in efficiency of the brakes, caused by reduction of a working course of a pedal.
It be required to you: a ruler, keys «on 13», «on 14», пассатижи.
1. Press a brake pedal against the stop and measure distance from an overlay of a platform of a pedal to a floor.

    
THE NOTE
The ruler should be established perpendicularly floor planes.

2. Release a pedal and repeatedly measure distance from an overlay of a platform of a pedal in a free condition to a floor. This distance should be 100–105 mm. The difference of the sizes at two measurements also is a full working course of a pedal which should be 60–65 mm. If the distance from an overlay of a platform of a pedal to a floor does not correspond specified in item 2, adjust it, changing length of a pusher of the vacuum amplifier of brakes.
3. Remove the vacuum amplifier of brakes from the car («Replacement of the vacuum amplifier of brakes» see).

    
THE NOTE
Necessity of removal of the amplifier speaks that on the car there is no access to adjusting knot of a rod of the amplifier.

4. Loosen the an inhaling of a counternut 2 adjusting plugs and, keeping a rod 3 from проворачивания, rotate the adjusting plug 1 in the necessary party.

THE NOTE
At serviceable the vacuum amplifier and details of pedal knot the optimum full speed of a pedal of a brake is established automatically at installation of the size of 278,5 mm from the case of the amplifier to the aperture centre in a pusher plug («Replacement of the vacuum amplifier» see).

5. Check up a free wheeling of a pedal of a brake for what move a pedal a hand till the moment of the termination of moving of a pedal without resistance. Define on a ruler value of a free wheeling, it should be 8–10 mm. Discrepancy of a free wheeling to the specified value can be caused following reasons:
– Raised люфт in connection of a plug of a pusher of the vacuum amplifier and a pedal that can be a consequence of deterioration of a finger of a plug and apertures in a plug and a pedal;
– The distance from a pedal platform in a free condition to a floor (item 2 see) is incorrectly adjusted.
6. If the working course of a pedal is more than the value resulted in item 2 it specifies in air presence in a hydrodrive of brakes or on limiting deterioration of overlays brake колодок, brake disks or drums. THE PREVENTION
If the pressed against the stop and kept pedal pressed against the stop in this position gradually moves to a floor, it specifies in leak of a liquid from a hydrodrive or on malfunction of the main brake cylinder. These malfunctions are very dangerous, therefore immediately find a place of leak and eliminate it or replace the main brake cylinder!
