3.10.1. Check of system of cooling

At overheat first signs if the arrow of the index of temperature has left in a red zone (has lighted up the alarm lamp of an overheat of the engine), but from under a cowl steam clubs are not pulled out, include the maximum mode of heating of salon, Heating (air-conditioning) and salon ventilation see. It is necessary to lower temperature of a cooling liquid in system of cooling of the engine.
Include the alarm system, squeeze out a coupling pedal, then, using inertia of the car, try to move cautiously to edge проезжей parts and to stop as it is possible more to the right at a roadside and if it is possible, outside of проезжей parts. Allow to the engine to work to steam of minutes at a normal rate of rotation of a cranked shaft idling, with the heater included on a total power.

Do not stop the engine at once! The Only stipulation — preservation of tightness of system of cooling. If has burst or the hose has come off or other place of leak, except emission of a liquid from under a stopper of a broad tank was formed, the engine should be stopped immediately.

After a stop перегретого the engine the local overheat of a cooling liquid in places of its contact to the most heat-stressed details of the engine and formation of steam stoppers begins. This phenomenon is called as a heatstroke.
1. Stop the engine.
2. Open a cowl and examine подкапотное space. Define, steam whence is pulled out. At survey of the engine pay attention to presence of a cooling liquid in a broad tank, on an integrity of rubber hoses, a radiator, the thermostat.

Never open at once a stopper of a broad tank. The liquid is in cooling system under pressure, at opening of a stopper pressure will sharply fall, the liquid will begin to boil also its splashes can scald you. If you wish to open a stopper of a broad tank on the hot engine, preliminary throw from above with a dense thick rag and only after that cautiously turn a stopper.

3. Through an aperture in a board передка bodies in подкапотное space the hose connected to a tray, established under a heater radiator is passed. If antifreeze follows from a hose aperture, means, the radiator is damaged.
If the leak of the cooling liquid is found out, the burst hose can be restored temporarily by means of a sticky tape.

Especially well for this purpose approaches reinforced (for example, silvery colour) a sticky tape which can be got in autoshops.

The leak of a radiator, the thermostat or heater is difficult enough for eliminating on a place, therefore in such situation it is necessary to add water in system of cooling and at movement to watch closely the temperature index, periodically restoring level in cooling system.

Long use of water instead of antifreeze leads to a scaling in system of cooling of the engine, to deterioration of its cooling and, as consequence, to resource reduction.
Never add cold water in перегретый the engine. It should cool down with an open cowl not less than 30 minutes

4. The engine can overheat in case of failure of the thermostat which regulates passage of a stream of a liquid to cooling system through a radiator or by it (for acceleration of warming up of the cold engine). For thermostat check it is necessary to check up on the heated-up engine to the touch temperature of the top hose connecting the thermostat with the engine. If the top hose of a radiator cold, the thermostat is faulty, circulation through a radiator is not present.
5. Very often reason of an overheat of the engine which system of cooling is equipped by the electric fan, fan failure is.

6. Start up the engine, watch temperature and pay attention, whether join at an overheat of the engine fans of system of cooling. If they do not join, the reasons can be the fused safety lock, the faulty relays of the inclusion which oxidised contacts in колодке of a plait of wires or has burnt down electric motors. Replace a fusible insert 1 (poses. 4 on fig. 10.2) in the assembly block of safety locks and the relay, established in подкапотном space. If fans after replacement of a safety lock and have not started to work, replace the relay 2, 3 and 4 in the same assembly block. If after replacement of a safety lock and the relay fans have not started to work, check up their electric motors for what take two additional wires and submit on them a food directly from the storage battery. Wires should be reliably fixed and isolated.

Do not suppose short circuit of wires among themselves! Pay attention to polarity of connection: the electric motor should rotate so that the fan forced air through a radiator on the engine, and directions образуемого and running (travelling) air streams coincided.

If the electric motor has started to work, electroconducting or the relay of inclusion of the fan of system of cooling is faulty; if is not present — electroconducting or actually the electric motor also is faulty. The relay and the electric motor неремонтопригодны, replace them (section 10 "Electric equipment" see).

In a stopper of a broad tank two valves are established: inlet and final. The final valve plays large role in maintenance of an optimum temperature mode of the engine. It supports in system superfluous pressure not less than 0,13-0,15 МПа (1,3–1,5 kgs/sm2), providing rise in temperature of the beginning of boiling of a cooling liquid and warning intensive steam formation. Unfortunately, at valve jamming in the closed position at an overheat arises considerable excess of superfluous pressure — more than 0,15 МПа (1,5 kgs/sm2) that can lead to rupture of a broad tank or failure of one of hoses. In turn, valve jamming in open position leads to premature boiling of a cooling liquid.
Therefore once a year wash out a stopper of a broad tank flowing water. If there were doubts, replace a stopper. It is obvious that if on перегретом the engine to remove a stopper of a broad tank and on time this action will coincide with a heatstroke boiling up of a liquid and formation of air stoppers in cooling system are guaranteed.
Once a year blow cells of a radiator a stream of compressed air (for example, from the compressor), directing a stream at first towards to a running air stream, and then in its direction for removal from a surface of a radiator of the dirt, the stuck insects and road dust. So it is possible to restore efficiency of a radiator partially.
